Deck & fence cleaning in Auckland & Northland

The deck is still there to enjoy. It’s just been hidden under a winter’s worth of grime.

We clean decks and fences affected by dirt, green growth and weathering. Tell us what they’re made from and whether they’re painted, stained or oiled; we’ll plan a wash that suits the surface.

Deck washing and fence cleaning

A deck gets foot traffic, pot marks and damp patches. A fence collects dirt along its panels and posts. They can be washed in the same visit, but the surfaces may need different treatment.

For the space you walk on

Deck cleaning

We clean the agreed deck boards and accessible edges, paying attention to built-up dirt and visible green growth. Let us know if the timber is bare, oiled, stained or painted, or if you have composite decking.

Point out loose boards, raised nails, splinters or peeling coatings before we quote. Cleaning will not repair them.

For the boundary you see every day

Fence washing

We wash accessible fence faces to remove surface dirt and growth. Timber, painted, metal and composite fencing can call for different methods and care around joins or older finishes.

Tell us the approximate fence length and whether you want one side or both sides included. Neighbour access may be needed for the far side.

Care for the finish already there

The wash depends on the material

Raw timber, a painted fence and composite boards do not respond the same way to water pressure or cleaning products. We look at the surface condition and finish before deciding how to wash it. Too much pressure can roughen timber or disturb a coating that is already failing.

If you plan to stain or paint afterwards, tell us now. A clean is part of the preparation, but drying, sanding, repairs and product-specific preparation may still be needed before a new finish goes on.

  • Bare or weathered timber
  • Painted or stained timber
  • Composite deck boards
  • Painted or metal fencing
  • Shaded areas with green growth
  • Rails, steps and accessible edges
Good to know: Washing removes surface build-up; it does not replace rotten boards, fix loose rails, strip an old coating or make a weathered deck look new. We’ll discuss visible limitations before the job.

Before the wash

Help us quote the outdoor area properly

A wide photo of the whole deck and close-ups of the boards tell us more than the word “dirty”. For fencing, photos of the full run and an approximate length help us understand the access. Mention steps, balustrades, built-in seating and whether the other side can be reached.

We also need to know about nearby planting, ponds, pets, water access and drainage. Before the visit, move furniture, pots and loose items so the agreed surfaces can be reached.

A useful question to answer

Cleaning for use, sale or a new finish?

If you want to use the deck again after winter, the aim may be to remove everyday build-up and green growth.

If you’re preparing a property for sale, the deck and visible fence can be included with other exterior areas.

If a painter or deck finisher is booked, share their requirements so the cleaning scope is clear. Allow drying time and have the finisher confirm the surface is ready.

Deck and fence cleaning FAQs

Questions before you book

Do you clean decks and fences in Auckland and Northland?

Yes. Send us the property address in Auckland, Whangārei or elsewhere in Northland, plus photos of the deck or fence. We’ll confirm availability and quote the agreed areas.

Can you clean a timber deck without damaging the wood?

The method depends on the timber, its condition and any existing finish. We assess those first and avoid assuming that high pressure is suitable for every deck. Tell us about soft boards, splinters, loose fixings or peeling stain.

Do you clean composite decking?

We can assess composite boards and their condition. If you know the brand, send its care instructions. Some products have specific restrictions on pressure or cleaning agents.

Can you remove algae from a slippery deck?

Cleaning can remove visible surface growth, and we can discuss whether a treatment is suitable. Shade and moisture can lead to new growth later, so keep monitoring the deck, especially during wetter months.

Can I stain or paint after the deck or fence is washed?

Yes, but the surface needs to dry fully and may require sanding, repairs or further preparation. Follow the coating manufacturer’s instructions and have your painter or finisher check the surface before applying a product.

Will washing remove old paint or stain?

A maintenance wash is intended to clean the surface, not strip a coating. Loose paint may come away, but complete paint or stain removal is a different job. Mention your plans when requesting a quote.

Do you wash both sides of a fence?

We can discuss both sides if they are accessible and permission has been arranged for any neighbouring property. Tell us which faces you want included; the quote will set out the agreed scope.

Do I need to move deck furniture and pots?

Yes. Please move furniture, pots, mats and loose items from the areas being washed. Let us know in advance if anything heavy or fixed in place limits access.
